Advantages and Disadvantages of RV Living: Part 1

This is part one of a two part article where I will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of living in a RV or camper trailer. It may seem humorous at times but these are all real issues that one must take into consideration before making the decision of whether or not to convert to this mode of living.

The lot rent is very inexpensive considering that usually all of your utilities are included. These include electricity, water, garbage disposal and sometimes even cable TV and Internet services.

If you elect to live in a RV park the amenities alone are worth the move. These sometimes include a swimming pool, laundry, and game rooms. Some parks have weekly or monthly activities such as movie nights or pot luck dinners.

When you live in a park there are no outside chores to do. No lawn to cut. If the wind should blow down a tree or tree limb the park cleans up the mess. Oops a dog got into the trash…park managers job. Essentially the only upkeep you must maintain is the home itself.

If you get tired of living in one spot or you just don’t like the neighbors you just crank up and move on or in the case of a camper, back your truck up, hook on and take off.

There no taxes to pay like when you own property.

No long commute to work, just find a lot or park close by your job and set up the RV.

The home is too small for needy relatives that need a place to stay for a short time to even consider asking you to help them out.

During the hot summer months the small space is easy to keep cool. The same goes for in the winter, it is easy to keep warm

Clean up is a breeze. Small space not a lot to clean.

No large family and friend gatherings during the holiday season, where you do all the cooking, all the entertaining and then all the clean up. There just isn’t enough space. You get invited to their house to celebrate. They get to do all the work for a change!

I am sure there are many, many more advantages to living in a RV or camper trailer. I am just skimming the surface. At least these few will give you some things to consider. You must think very carefully however, as this life is not for everyone.
