2D Blueprints to CAD Conversion

To understand what a paper(blueprints) to CAD conversion is you must first understand what CAD is. These three letters represent Computer Aided Design or Drafting. In the past about ten or more years ago the main form of technical drawing or drafting was done with several different instruments that would perform task like measuring, creating arcs and circles, offsetting lines that are parallel and perpendicular, and creating any type of line you can imagine. Nowadays we use CAD to handle all of this work due to the precision, accuracy, and general ease of design it allows.

In the past all of the designs whether architectural, mechanical, civil and a number of other technical drawings would be drawn by hand on a set of blueprints or paper. These blueprints entail all the necessary information to correctly design the intended project, but nowadays the industry standard is CAD. So in other words this means there is a lot of blueprints that need to be updated, and this is where you get the phrase paper to CAD conversion.

When a drafter gets a set of blueprints to be converted to a CAD file he or she will go about designing the technical drawing like they normally would. A correct set of blueprints should contain a top, front, left, right, back, and bottom view along with an orthographic view or in other words a 3D perspective drawing which gives the object depth and a sense of reality. In some cases all of these views are not used primarily because all the necessary information can be found without one of the views. Special notes are also part of the blueprints and provide information to the designer or draftsmen that cannot be seen by just looking at the different views.

When working with CAD software it will design the old boring 2D line and give them the 3D features you need to fully understand the object. This software is widely used in CNC machines where the information provided within the CAD drawing file will tell the CNC software how to design the part it’s working on. The ability to simply upload a file and have a mold making machine develop a mold for production is very useful. A good advantage for CAD compared to a 2D Blueprint is that changes can be made at anytime throughout the design process in case a mistake is made, or the design changes from something like the allotted tolerance, width of a casing, or size of a screw. When a Draftsmen works with paper or blueprints they have to give it a rub with a good old eraser to correct any mistakes, and they still can’t go back and fix one view and have them all update instantly.

There are a number of reasons why companies are throwing out the old blueprints and investing in updated CAD files. Paper to CAD conversion will remain to be a part of the drafters duties well into the future until every design is finally updated, and no paper blueprints remain. The fact that most production machinery gathers it’s design information from CAD is another contributing factor to these paper to CAD conversions. 29 Day Giving Challenge - Change Your Life and the Life of Others

When I came across Cami Walker’s website I was searching for a way to really get back into building my business and re-motivate myself to get things going. In reading one of my Ladies Who Launch newsletters I learned more about Cami and her new book 29 Gifts: How A Month Of Giving Can Change Your Life. My personality is a bit type A and I decided to look at her website and Facebook page and join the group to begin the 29 day challenge for myself. At first it was easy to think of some things to do for friends and family but after a few days, thinking of the “gives” became a little more complex. Some of my gives were fun and random like paying for the car behind me at McDonalds drive thru or being a secret admirer for someone at work. Serving my family was easier than I thought by making time to play the Wii with my 10 year old son or reading a book to my two year old. What I wasn’t expecting is how quickly my giving would turn into getting.

I was focusing on my business and some prospecting one day when all of the sudden everyone I seemed to talk to was open to listening about my opportunity. I even called some past clients that I thought would be awesome to work with and one of them had lunch with me and came on board the following week. I noticed that the law of attraction or “what comes around goes around,” was really starting to work for me. The more time I spent time giving to others, the more things started to fall into place in my own life.

As I prepared my lesson for church on Sunday (I teach women from 18 years + about 40 of them) I decided to challenge my class to the do 29 days of giving as they would the 12 days of Christmas. This weekend I’ve promised to reward them with a fun treat if they tried giving for even one day. I’m excited to have them share some of their experiences with others and hopefully start a pay it forward attitude at least in our city of Auburn, WA.

This experiment, though challenging at times, has brought much more to me than I have given out. I plan to do this at least twice a year and share my results with others so they can enjoy the fruits of their labors as much as I have.

3 Acne No-No's

Acne is a common problem that affects men and women of all ages. It is most common, however, during the preteen and teenage years. These are the times when self esteem and self image is being established. Sometimes acne can make a teen doubt his/her physical appearance. During these times, those with acne may resort to various methods of self treatment. However, some of these skin self treatment methods do little for the cure. Although it may be difficult, there are three acne no-no’s you must try and avoid at all costs.

No-No #1: Picking
Squeezing and picking pimples with your fingers is the most common no-no performed by teens. You should never squeeze, pick, or touch your acne with bare fingers. This risks spreading the bacteria and acne even further. Instead use two Q-tips to squeeze a pimple that has come to a white head. Q tips are much more sterile than human fingers.

No-No #2: Washing too hard
It is tempting to wash your acne with vengeance. You want to scrub those red bumps away forever. However, scrubbing too hard has the opposite effect on your skin. The extra friction makes it even more probable that more acne eruptions will occur. Instead, use a facial cleanser with a soft washcloth every morning when you wake up and every night before you go to bed.

No-No #3: Too much Sun
Common sense would tell you to bask in the sun during an acne eruption. You might think the sun would dry up your acne. However, common sense takes you down the wrong path in this case. Any drying of acne due to the sun is only temporary. As a matter of fact, once your skin has dried, your oil producing glands will go into top gear and increase your acne breakouts. It is best to limit sun exposure. A little is okay, but too much can make your pimple problem much worse.

Fortunately, acne usually does not last too long. Some teens experience acne for a couple of years while others only experience it for a few months. In the long run, however, the amount of time you have acne in your life is extremely limited. In order to limit the amount of pimples you have during your worst years, be sure to squeeze only with Q tips, gently clean your skin, and stay out of the sun. Consistency with these tips will decrease your acne and improve your skin.

28th Berea Craft Festival in Berea, Kentucky, July 10-12, 2009

The 28th Berea Craft Festival takes place this weekend in Berea, Kentucky starting Friday, July 10 through Sunday, July 12, 2009. The Festival will be held at the Historic Indian Fort Theatre (which is basically the center of the Berea College Forest). It’s open daily from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm and admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, and kids under 12 are free as is parking.

Berea, which is known as “The Folk Arts and Crafts Capital of Kentucky”, is located in Madison County, Kentucky. Its population is right around 14,200 which makes it one of the fastest growing towns in Kentucky and the nation as it has grown by almost 44% since 2000.

In fact, the Berea Craft Festival draws nearly 9000 visitors a year (its population in 2000). It is a scenic area that has the honor of comprising one of Southern Living’s “Favorite Small Towns in America” and National Geographic’s list of “Small Town Escapes”. If that doesn’t pique your curiosity, the arts, crafts and ambiance of a small town rich with history and extraordinary art certainly will.

The Berea Craft Festival has also been named as “One of the top 200 best show in America” by Sunshine Artist Magazine.

From woodwork, weaving, paintings, jewelry, instruments and glass, the Berea Craft Festival has something for everyone. This Festival celebrates artists and musicians as well as writers.

At the 28th Berea Craft Festival you will be able to see at least 100 artists from 20 states. Some of these artists will be working as you stroll along the grounds (set in a wooded area) and demonstrate how to make different crafts. Some of the demonstrations include doll making, woodturning, and raku pottery-firing.

Additionally you can shop, eat, and even see a play (Curious Savage) at the New Berea Arena Theater which runs July 10 through 12. There are antique shops, craft galleries and a special exhibit (Quilts with a Kick) which is held at the Berea Arts Council. You can see the exhibit on July 10 and 11 from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm, and on Sunday, July 12 from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm.

For food, you won’t want to miss the newly renovated Boone Tavern. There’s also the fare of the festival including pork tenderloin sandwiches, grilled chicken, freshly squeezed lemonade and kettle corn to name just a few!

Music will abound as well with the sounds of fiddles, guitars and dulcimers.

Some of the featured juried artists include Jeanne Scott of Missouri, Carol Bowles of Kentucky, Clay Tinney of Tennessee, Jim Boggs of Kentucky and Les Smith of South Carolina.

28 Days to a Healthier Heart -- February Heart Month

The numbers are scary. Heart disease and stroke kill one in every 3.7 men, and one in every 2.4 women, making cardiovascular disease the nation’s number one killer and leading President Bush to declare February as American Heart Month.

The American Heart Association is challenging every American to create a culture of physical activity and health and there is no better time to get started than American Heart Month, says Fitness Expert and Performance Coach David Berger.

Set weekly goals that will help you meet the American Heart Association challenge of becoming more physically active and healthy. By making a commitment to yourself, you can become the “number one me” you have always wanted.

“Every one of us has the opportunity to achieve a healthier heart, mind and body,” Berger said. “You just need to make a commitment to yourself and you can start with just 10 minutes each day.”

Focus on achieving just one heart-healthy goal per week during American Heart Month, Berger said, and by month’s end you will be much closer to becoming the “number one me” you have always wanted. Berger offered the following suggestions for weekly heart-healthy goals:

Week 1: Focus on your “Po-TEN-Tial”.

Po-TEN-Tial is your Power Of TEN To Increase Active Living! Your goal is to make each one of your days an opportunity for progress by committing to 10 Minutes of any full-body activity (walking, jogging, skipping, stair climbing, or calisthenics-like Number One ME). Make the simple goal of ten-minutes of activity as synonymous with your day as brushing your teeth. You Can Do 10!

Week 2: Hold The Cheese.

One of the easiest ways to slash the artery clogging saturated fats in your diet is to Just Say No to Cheese! Omit the fatty stuff on all of your soups, salads, and sandwiches. Order your next pizza with only half the normal portion of cheese and at home use grated Parmesan only as needed.

Week 3: Pass on the Salt.

Take the advice of the Surgeon General, the American Heart Association, the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, and the more the half of Americans over age 60 affected with high blood-pressure or hypertension – Cut Back and Cut Out Salt in Your Diet! Make your own soups or buy lower sodium soups (soup makers tend to over-indulge us on the white stuff) and don’t add salt to anything!

Week 4: LOL

Laugh-Out-Loud- The 80-muscles in your face are some of the most under-used muscles in the country. Laughing and smiling more often can be a part of your positive revolution. According to Steve Sultanoff, PhD, the president of the American Association of Therapeutic Humor, “Laughter can both change how you feel physically and affect your biochemistry.” He says that you can not experience humor and feel depressed. This story is guaranteed to bring a smile: A lady was picking through the frozen turkeys at the grocery store, but couldn’t find one big enough for her family. She asked the stock boy, “Do these turkeys get any bigger?” The stock boy answered, “No ma’am, they’re dead.”

2K Sports NBA 2K9 Videogame Review

Every since the changes employed in NBA 2K8, this 2K sport series had lots its edge in the basketball console game competition. From the court mechanics that had a broken guard system, to the “slow” feeling the gameplay had, 2K8 was an epicly frustrating title that drove gamers seeking a profound basketball experience elsewhere. But NBA 2K9 is here to smooth things over, at least on the court side.

2K9 is a massive upgrade from its predecessor with on-court action. The gameplay has been stepped up a bit, and the models and animations look fantastic. The old guard system was dropped and the left trigger guard system was brought back and tweaked so that its a little more complicated to guard just anyone. And while the mechanic is a little frustrating, it works out in the end. Having our blessed lockdown stick back in this game really helps remove the broken feeling that 2K8 had.

The AI has gotten a nice overhaul that makes it much easier to perform plays. They’ve streamlined the execution of plays so that it feels less tedious and this was one of the other gameplay decisions that made the game feel so slow. With that out and gone, the AI is also just very cooperative, which means you can be too with less frustration now, and playing with two players on the same team is a much more significant part of the game than it was in the past due to how the AI handled your player.

While the controls can feel a bit uncertain at times, the shot stick has been tweaked to allow a bit more adjustment when your feet are off the ground, giving you an opening for some nice moves if they’re required. And through all this the animations look just great. All of the mocap sequences really blend together into something visual impressive. Combined with the speed of the game being turned up a notch, it really is fun to just sit and watch the mechanics of the court as they unfold.

So, we’ve discussed court side presentation, which is excellent , but now let’s discuss the off-court presentation, which is still just as “meh” as it was. The controls are just painful as you try to navigate the menus, and the information, while being pulled directly from, is organized in such a painful manner that it feels worthless. So, don’t look for any nice changes here, it’s just more painful menu navigation, though some of the trading systems have been tweaked to be more interesting.

In conclusion, this is definitely the basketball game of the year. It has a solid control scheme, fantastic multiplayer and really makes up for the mistakes that were made in 2K8.

29-Year-Old Kidnap Victim Found After 18 Years; Has Two Children by Kidnapper

In what has to be one of the most bizarre news stories in recent memory, a kidnapped girl has been found after 18 years — alive. The girl was 11 years old when she was kidnapped and what has been going on these 18 years is as bizarre as much as the actual finding of the girl. The story of the young woman being found after 18 years lives up to all the billing.

There is an article by Reuters that has been picked up by The New York Times titled “Kidnapped California Girl Found 18 Years Later.”

In the article we are told about Jaycee Dugard who was snatched off the streets when she was 11-years-old while walking to a bus stop.

The information is almost too disgusting to relay.

Jaycee was kidnapped at age 11 by a husband and wife. The husband’s name is Phillip Craig Garrido. He is 58-years-old and his wife Nancy is 54.

What occurred from that point until Jaycee was about 13-years-old is hard to say but we do know that apparently Garrido fathered two children with the victim. Since the children are 15 and 11, that means that a 43-year-old Garrido impregnated a 13 or 14-year-old Jaycee Dugard. She had another baby by him four years later.

Garrido had his kidnap victim and his grandchildren hidden outside in the back in a homemade compound of tents and shacks.

Authorities have already come under attack for not being able to find this girl and her children before now.

Garrido made two errors. He failed to show up for a meeting with his parole officer and he tried to pass out tracts at an airport. He apparently had his kidnap victim and her child in tow.

Garrido is a convicted rapist. He actually served time in 1971.

Neighbors of Garrido indicated he was strange. They said he could control sound with his mind and they further said he had revival meetings in the tents in the backyard.

Of course Dugard’s mother and step-father are in shock but apparently convinced it is Jaycee based on questions they asked her.

Consider this disgusting side-note:

Garrido says if the public listens they will see how much he has changed and how hard he has been working. He indicates he has changed and when everything comes to light they will see a “heart-warming story.”

I don’t care what you say Phil; heart-warming stories don’t start with kidnapping and statutory rape.

29-Year-Old Has Fathered 21 Kids in Knoxville, Tennessee

A 29-year-old with 21 kids is living in Knoxville, Tennessee, right now. It seems almost like it’s too many to be real, and when the reality hits that someone this young has this many kids, it just boggles the mind. Desmond Hatchett has fathered 21 children with as many as 11 mothers, and that is just the count that is on record with the state. There could possibly be more kids out there claiming lineage to Hatchett, and now the tax payers of the state of Tennessee are going to have to foot some hefty child support bills that he just cannot pay.

The reason that someone was able to figure out just how many kids that Desmond Hatchett has, was because he ended up on the docket for appearance at the Knox County Juvenile Child Support Court on Friday. The issue wasn’t that he simply appeared, but that he was scheduled on the docket 11 different times, representing 15 of the 21 children that he has officially fathered. The kids range in age from just being born up to being 11 years old, and it seems that he owes child support to nearly ever one of the mothers. With so many kids to his name though, there is only so much the state can do to help out the mothers.

Under state law, the state can take up to 50% of Hatchett’s paycheck in order to pay child support to the mothers. The problem though, is that the 50% is being split over and over again to cover all of the kids. 50% split multiple times doesn’t go that far as it is, but Hatchett also only holds down a minimum wage job that only gets each mother a few bucks per month. That means that every one of the mothers is getting less than they should in child support and there is nothing the state can really do. Nothing they can do but subsidize part of what the mothers should be getting, doing so by taking money out of the taxes that every other citizen has to pay into.

We live in a free country, so the state cannot step in and tell Hatchett that he cannot have any more kids, but wouldn’t logic tell Hatchett that it is about time to put an end to these games. It’s also shocking that he has found so many willing partners that were not only willing to have (most likely) unprotected sex but father his children, potentially knowing that there were already several other children out there with his name. It is a shocking story, and one that does not make the community of Knoxville look very good when one of their own is acting like this.

28 New Planets Recently Discovered

From Honolulu comes news of 28 newly discovered planets that are outside of our solar system. According to, this increases the number of known exoplanets to 236. This reveals that planets are able to exist around different stellar types, such as small stars to bigger ones.

Within the past year, 37 new objects have been spotted. The planets are included in this number. Of these objects, seven of them are stars called brown dwarfs. Brown dwarfs have mass that dwarf the larger planets but are at the same time too small to sustain the nuclear reactions that are necessary for stellar ignition.

“We added 12 percent to the total in the last year, and we’re very proud of that,” Jason Wright was quoted as saying . He is one of the team members at the University of California at Berkeley. “This provides new planetary systems so that we can study their properties as an ensemble,” he said, according to

The newest planets were presented at a meeting of the American astronomical Society, also known as the AAS.

When astronomers look for planets outside of our solar system, they do it by a process known as looking for stellar wobbles. These wobbles are caused by orbiting planets. Depending on the size and distance of the planet star, the wobble can be either strong or weak, and can now be detected at a meter per second.

Two years ago an exoplanet, as they are called, was discovered just 30 light-years away from Earth.Astronomers can now pinpoint the red M dwarf’s mass, radius, and density. The planet, which is largely ice, circles the star Gliese 436 and has a radius and density that is similar to Neptune’s.

“[Gliese 436b] must be 50 percent rock and about 50 percent water, with perhaps small amounts of hydrogen and helium,” Geoffrey Marcy, who is leader of the planet-search team, said. “So this planet has the interior structure of a hybrid super-Earth/Neptune, with a rocky core surrounded by a significant amount of water compressed into solid form at high pressures and temperatures,” according to

So far, four of these new planets belong to multiple-planet systems. This gives researchers the idea that at least 30 percent of all planet-parent stars are made up of more than one planetary companion. Three of these planets also circle stars that have masses between 1.6 and 1.9 times that of our own sun. These stars are called A- and F-type stars. They are usually hard to detect because of their fast rotations and pulsating atmospheres.

28 Fortnights Later: A Post Lockout Tale - Western Conference

28 Fortnights Later: A Post-Lockout Tale ‘” Western Conference

We’ve already established the Miami Heat as the 2012/13 Eastern Conference champions. But who will be the new cream of the crop in the West? While the West has been the stronger conference since the turn of the century, the lockout has a number of Western teams sliding down the rankings with their key players really feeling the effects of old age. On their way down are Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan and Steve Nash, with Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and half of the other Thunder players rising to the forefront of the West.

2012/13 Post Lockout ‘”Western Conference

  1. Playoff Teams Oklahoma City Thunder ‘” Can you imagine the matchup problems a 250+ pound version of Kevin Durant would cause? Well, 12 months off has Durant returning with a filled out body and all the same skills on his way to an MVP calibre season. Russell Westbrook still has some issues deferring to his superior team mate, but with team play taking a backseat across the entire league in general, Westbrook avoids public criticism and is largely considered one of the elite guards in the league. James Harden is a legitimate stud in his own right but still humble enough to pick his moments. In 7 April games when the Thunder rest Durant for the playoffs, Harden averages a cool 24.5ppg. The Thunder are the only team in the West to win 60 games and are largely considered the best ‘team’ in the league, in the traditional sense of the word.
  2. LA Clippers ‘” We know! Crazy right! But get used to it; in this Western Conference the teams with the best youth will really move up in the aftermath of the lockout. Blake Griffin doesn’t surprise anyone by supplanting himself as the best power forward on the planet. It is however the improvement of Eric Gordon which really makes the Clippers a top seed team as he looks like a young Ray Allen back in the ‘He Got Game’ days. Mo Williams is not what you would call a top tier point guard, but he plays second or third fiddle brilliantly, even if LeBron James never realized it back in Cleveland.
  3. Los Angeles Lakers ‘” The Lakers have some serious troubles during the regular season, with Derek Fisher and Ron Artest truly playing beyond their physical limits at this stage of their careers. Nevertheless, the Lakers remain an elite team due to their imposing front line rotation of Gasol, Bynum and Odom. Kobe is noticeably slowing down, but still competitive enough to put together a deserved All Star nominated season. Internally he struggles with the realization that LA now belongs to Blake Griffin and the Clippers, although ultimately he saves face by winning a hard fought second round playoff battle to keep the Clippers out of the Western Conference Finals.
  4. Memphis Grizzlies ‘” Conley, Allen, Gay, Randolph and Gasol are as close to a well oiled machine as you can find in the Post Lockout Era. After 12 months away from the game and public spotlight, OJ Mayo is more acclimatised to coming off the bench and actually wins sixth man of the year. He gets equal minutes as Tony Allen who leads the league in steals and is one of the few perimeter players to have a defensive game worthy of the price of admission alone. As for their frontline, Zach Randolph really balloons out to become the modern day Round Mound of Rebound. Fortunately, a healthy Rudy Gay and an always reliable Marc Gasol easily make up for Randolph’s decline in offensive output.
  5. Portland Trailblazers ‘” This is actually a sad story to report. Over the first 41 games, the Blazers are actually only 1½ games behind the Thunder for top spot in the West. Brandon Roy and (wait for it) Greg Oden are limited to under 30 minutes but have All Star calibre years with their legs seemingly holding up after the additional year of rest. Tragically both mirages prove too good to be true and the Blazers are forced to play the second half of the season without Roy and Oden. Ray Felton and LaMarcus Aldridge do a commendable job, but morale is at an all-time low as the Blazers are bounced in the first round of the playoffs.
  6. Golden State Warriors ‘” Steph Curry and Monta Ellis form the highest scoring back court in the league and David Lee rediscovers his mojo to lead the Warriors to a playoff seed in the West. Ekpe Udoh is a defensive stalwart and Dorrell Wright can still shoot from down town. As with most of the other successful teams in the Post Lockout Era, the Warriors success is largely based on their talent not diminishing with age over the 12 months of inactivity.
  7. Utah Jazz ‘” The Jazz have some rotational problems with Millsap,Jefferson and Favors needing minutes up front which causes a slow start. They manage to figure it out by the All Star Break with Paul Millsap’s minutes (as usual) taking the biggest hit. Gordon Hayward has a solid ‘sophomore’ season and wins the best white starting shooting guard by default in the West. Devin Harris isn’t a threat to make the All Star team, but his slight loss of speed actually keeps him from running full pace into the extended elbows of the league’s biggest units, thus keeping him on the floor for 80+ games.
  8. Dallas Mavericks ‘”Dallas narrowly avoid going from title winners to lottery team with Dirk Nowitzki being the only thing keeping them afloat. Jason Kidd is no longer effective and the Mavs are forced to run a PG-by-committee with JJ Barea, Roddy Beaubois and Jason Terry all sharing some of the responsibility. DeShawn Stevenson spends the lockout doing his best Nicholas Cage in Leaving Las Vegas, which has obvious effects on his lockdown defensive game. Mark Cuban doesn’t throw any parades this year and has no idea what he is going to do when Nowitzki retires.

  9. Denver Nuggets ‘” The Nuggets don’t have a clear leader to get them into the playoffs, but a balanced attach from Danilo Gallinari, Ty Lawson, Nene, Arron Afflalo and Andre Miller keep the Nuggets competitive. With most NBA players spending the lockout by the sea and forgoing their fitness, the Nuggets also achieve an extra 5 wins on the year by virtue of visiting teams struggling to play at Denver’s mile high altitude.
  10. Sacramento Kings ‘” Tyreke Evans and Marcus Thornton are a solid back court and DeMarcus Cousins makes a serious push for the All Star team. The youth of the Kings allows them to give the city of Sacramento some hope for the future as teams around them crumble with age. The Kings score a lot of points and are fun to watch. Their 10th place finish is a decent result although no one ever really gives them the respect of a playoff calibre team.
  11. New Orleans Hornets ‘” Chris Paul is still dominant but who else on the Hornets roster is going to be productive in 2012/13? No one. David West opted out of his contract prior to the lockout, and while we won’t speculate where he signs, suffice to say that it is not inNew Orleans. This leavesNew Orleans without a starting quality power forward; whatever stiff does wind up with the job though will still provide more offensive production than Emeka Okafor.
  12. San Antonio Spurs ‘” Just like the Celtics, the Spurs really drop down the rankings as their aging team is simply too old following the lockout. Tim Duncan probably should have retired following the 2011/12 season, but decides to come back following the lockout for one more campaign to farewell the city of San Antonio. Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili are still productive but neither are All Stars by this point and the Spurs are in a complete rebuild mode.
  13. Houston Rockets ‘” The lockout allows Yao Ming an extra 12 months to rest his legs. Unfortunately it appears all the time in the world cannot keep the big Chinese giant on the floor as Yao’s season and career is over after 20 games into the season. The Rockets are again forced to play out the season with Luis Scola as the only inside option. Kevin Martin can still shoot but is not going to carry a team into the playoffs by himself. If you haven’t noticed the lockout has been particularly unkind to the state of Texas. At least they still have football.
  14. Minnesota Timberwolves ‘” The Wolves have enough young talent to not regress during the lockout, but can the young kids really improve without any game experience? Ricky Rubio and Derrick Williams both have the talent to justify the Wolves being higher than this, but after 12 months without any basketball they are extremely raw and turnover prone. Michael Beasley spends the entire lockout assuming he’ll be traded to make room for Derrick Williams and attends more parties than any other player with an average of 10.75 all-nighters per month.
  15. Phoenix Suns ‘” We don’t want to make fun of the Suns because Steve Nash and Grant Hill are such commendable characters. That being said, it’s pretty obvious that the Suns are highly reliant one some very old bodies that just won’t cut it in the Post Lockout Era. Despite having no real scoring threats, the Suns waive Vince Carter as soon as the lockout is lifted. Vince publicly demands a huge pay day with a starting position from a team with championship prospects. No offer ever comes and Vince is never seen in the NBA again, ala Latrell Sprewell and Allen Iverson.

2012/13 Finals ‘” Miami Heat v Oklahoma City Thunder
The Thunder are the obvious choice to meet the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals following the lockout. The two sides rely on entirely opposing styles of play, with the winner ultimately going to dictate the future of the NBA. On the one hand, the Heat rely on the one-on-one brilliance of James and Wade to knock off their competition. On the other, the Thunder have a more balanced team attack. Durant is their number one option, but Harden and Westbrook also take turns within their offense as required. While the Heat rely on stiffs in the middle, the Thunder have Serge Ibake and Kendrick Perkins to provide an anchoring defense which gives them the edge. Ultimately, the Thunder are triumphant in 7 games and the basketball purists around the globe breathe a collective sigh of relief.

Of course, all this is hypothetical and could all be avoided if the lockout would just hurry up and be over with! Come on guys, let’s play some games!!!

3 Am, Sometime Last October

late, eyes burning from the glow
of the screen
classic introverts
almost stereotypically, comically so
we did better with thin panes of glass
to temper our thoughts
and measure our words
while we spun them out
exhausted but not ready
to go just yet
caught in that uncensored place between sleep
and honesty-

i like you.
i like you back.

a pause, and then something about an awkward silence-

i don’t believe in awkward silences.

and then it was quiet again
because it was too soon to say
anything else
we might have thought.

3 Advantages of Portable Digital Media Players Over Smart Phones

Portable digital media player devices attract more consumers all the time with features that have some definite advantages over smart phones. While many people wouldn’t be caught without their smart phones, other people are realizing how smart it is to go with portable players. From the latest MP4 MP3 video player to an Internet tablet, people are rethinking their portable investments, which can not only save a bundle of money, but also provide a far more satisfying multimedia experience.

It Costs Nothing to Run a Portable Media Player

Portable media players cost nothing to run, but smart phones can get expensive. Smart phones lock users in to long-term service contracts with monthly billings that can add up quickly, even for the most basic data service plans, which can then restrict users from certain Internet access and communications.

Many people are learning that for one flat upfront cost, they can have free unlimited access to the technology and possibilities of a media player. Portable players make it possible with Wifi technology to access the internet and email-and even to access internet phone services with the use of add-ons. The best portable media players not only provide access to the internet, but to countless applications and ample storage for every kind of movie, video and entertainment across the world.

Larger Screen Sizes Look Better in Your Hand

Portable media devices have evolved and people are discovering they can have a larger screen on the go, with the same lightweight convenience of a smart phone. An Internet tablet still remains small enough for a purse or pocket, but large enough to make a movie pop, with 5″ or 7″ of screen space. The sleeker, lighter designs of portable players make entertainment a bigger and richer experience in the palm of a person’s hand.

Superior Movie and Video Quality

Portable media players are designed to show cutting edge quality of entertainment with high efficiency. A current model MP3 video player can have high-resolution for stunning details and the most vibrant colors. Many portable players have operating systems and processors as powerful as PC desktops to run videos and movies with speed and dependability that a smart phone can’t match. Crystal clear displays on wide-angle screens are radical improvements from the standard smart phone interface.

More people are experiencing the advantages of trading in their smart phone for a portable digital media player.
