3 Tips for Success when Studying Astronomy

Although I received a telescope as a Christmas present after I’d finished a college course in astronomy, I knew that I could have probably done better in this course. I thought it would be interesting, and jumped into it without first considering these 3 tips for success when studying astronomy.

Tip #1 Know the Importance of Mathematics

Finding success when studying astronomy begins by first paying attention to those subjects upon which astronomy is based. I said before that I had jumped into the study of astronomy. I did this without realizing the major importance to this subject of mathematics. To illustrate, astronomy is the study of extreme distances. If I would get in a spaceship and try to reach a distant star, I would never get there in a single lifetime. Finding success when studying astronomy starts with a good understanding of mathematical formulas because these allow me to even comprehend the vastness of space. I can’t physically reach a star in my lifetime, but I can comprehend its existence through a mathematical formula written on paper.

Tip #2 Buy a Telescope in Advance

I mentioned that I had received a telescope as a present after I’d finished the astronomy course. Experience shows me how a telescope would have added to my success when studying astronomy. Let me explain. Typically, an introductory astronomy course can be completed just by reading about the properties of the planets, the way they orbit the sun, and so forth. A telescope would have allowed me to achieve greater success in studying astronomy, however, because I would have had a good excuse to go outside and get some fresh air. Certainly, textbook knowledge is vital when studying astronomy. It’s also fun to pretend to be Galileo, making new discoveries. Even in science, there’s always room for daydreaming.

Tip #3 Arrange a Good Study Schedule

Everyone likes to study at a nice desk. When studying astronomy, however, the sky itself becomes a kind of workplace. I didn’t need a telescope to complete assignments, but I still had to arrange a good study schedule that would allow me time to look at the night sky. I saw that I could find success when studying astronomy by coming home from work when it was still dark outside. I could then finish my homework before going to sleep. Simply put, success in an astronomy course comes from cooperating with the sun and the moon.

In sum, there are 3 tips for success when studying astronomy. These have to do with understanding the importance of mathematics, making the subject more enjoyable by looking through a telescope, and by discovering the best conditions for studying the night sky.

3 Tips for Recording Country Singers

There’s probably no more important aspect of a country song than the vocals. The music is usually highly lyrical, and certain country singers can carry a song even if it’s not very good–as long as the vocals are well recorded. Here are a few tips for recording a country singer in your home studio.

1. Use the right microphone. A large diaphragm microphone designed for vocals is good for country music, but be sure to test a few microphones if you have the capability to try to find one that best accents the singer’s voice. Exactly what that means will vary from singer to singer, but bassier, male country singers will need a microphone that accents those frequencies, while lighter singers will need a lighter-sounding microphone. Usually you want the mic to be a foot or so away from the country singer, and a bit high so that the singer has to sing up a little bit. This helps them open up their vocal cords to hit their notes easier.

2. Make sure the lyrics are clear. As I’d said, the lyrics in country music are incredibly important, so have a lyric sheet around as you produce the singer, and make sure that each line can be clearly heard and understood. Be ready to roll back the track and try again if the singer mumbles a line. Try to work with the singer to decide which lines should have a certain emphasis, and really make sure that the correct emphasis is there when recording–in other words, make sure that the lyrics have good energy. Country music thrives on that sort of energy, so without it, your vocal track will fall flat.

3. Spend a lot of time mixing. It’s important for country vocals to really be front and center in a song, with a clear and present tone that’s unobstructed by other instruments. Visualize your song as a room, and try to mix to avoid placing two instruments in the same section of the room; the vocals should be right in the center, and you should use panning and EQ to move the other instruments out of the singer’s “way”. I usually give the vocals a slight increase at about 10K and differing EQ depending on the properties of the vocalist. The 10K boost seems to give the vocals an extra “crispness”, while the other EQ serves to differentiate the vocals from the frequency ranges of the other instruments in the song, especially guitars and mandolins which may hover around the country singer’s range. Experiment to find the best sound for your singer, but always spend as much time mixing as you can.

3 Tips to Providing a Comfortable Work Environment for Your Staff

If you notice that your staff has a hard time feeling comfortable at work, there are three ways to make your staff feel more at ease about working. Managers have the challenge of teaching staff members to separate work from their home lives, which is best done by example. You should also provide employees with an environment that is visually and physically comfortable and fun. Communication is the most important factor in having a comfortable employee and with some extra planning, the level of comfort your employees have will last a long time. Learning and initiating these techniques will create loyal employees and less of a turn around.

Every employee has a home life that will affect their work life in varying degrees. Keeping your home life separate from work will set the standard for your team members. If you notice that your staff is gossiping or having a hard time separating work from home, have a meeting about how they can effectively put problems aside to concentrate on work. You may want to do this one on one or in small groups for a greater effect. Make sure your staff understands that it’s not productive for people to here about others home lives and the problems surrounding them, and then work, it brings a negative attitude to the group.

Make sure the environment your staff works in is comfortable. Have comfortable chairs brought in or foot rests so people don’t get so sore if they sit for most of the day. Play some light music that is comforting, or have an area for people to have meetings that offers positive lighting and photographs. The break room provided by most companies is usually cold and sterile feeling, putting in some club chairs, magazines and a tv will actually make it feel like they are having a break from work. Offer snacks and drinks on various days or have a pizza Friday and let your staff where jeans to work. Having a staff that enjoys coming to work, will help them work harder.

Communicating issues or giving pats on the back is any manager’s job, but there are several other ways to keep the communicating flowing at work. Always have a suggestion/message box, just in case you aren’t available to listen to your staffs concerns. Make your cell phone available, for calls from staff after hours, so they can ask you questions about the day, if needed. Hold company events a few times a year, so your staff feels comfortable socializing with you and their coworkers.

The comfort level of your staff depends a lot on how you handle yourself as a boss or manager. If you are cold, then they will be too. If you act like you aren’t comfortable, they usually will as well. Help your staff have work relationships and learn how to leave private lives at home, keep the work habitat comfortable and party every once in a while. These three tips will keep your staff coming to work with a smile and going home after a productive day.

3 Tips for Landing a Summer Internship

If you’ve already taken your midterms, you know its time to start searching for a summer internship. But finding a summer internship doesn’t have to be a full-time job. Here are three quick steps you can take to ensure a ROI on your internship search.

  • Show Don’t Tell – How many times did your Composition 101 professor in college encourage you to give examples to show your point instead of just stating the facts? This writing truism relates to your internship applications and not just your term papers. You need to show your potential employer what you bring to the table . Highlight your skill set and your previous experiences. A cover letter isn’t just what you want to learn, it’s about what you bring to the table. If you do not know how to write a cover letter, conduct a web search for tips and samples (they are not as hard or daunting as they might seem to be at first).
  • Demo Your Skills – If your potential boss is hesitant to take you on board, offer to work for a trial period, perhaps even virtually. Charlie Hoehn, a recent graduate, has made a name for himself by working with some of the biggest names in publishing – Tim Ferriss of the Four Hour Workweek and Tucker Max, by offering to work for them for free for a trial period. Read his Recession-Proof Graduate presentation for ideas on how to turn a trial work period into a paid gig.
  • Strut Your Stuff – Make it easy for an employer to evaluate you. It takes only moments to create a good first impression, and if you’re impression is via a cover letter and resume online, you might have even less time to look good. Increase your chances for finding a summer internship by ensuring that you are easy to evaluate. First, write a strong profile on the job search websites that you are signed up with. Write a short and succinct cover letter, have your list of references ready and make sure that when you Google yourself, that something other than Facebook pops up. Try social media websites like and LinkedIn to improve your search results and show off your skills.

When you take the time to create a well thought-through cover letter about what you can bring to the internship, provide employers with an impressive array of information and offer to demo your skills for a trial period, you’re well on your way to landing a summer internship you’ll never forget.

3 Tips to Make Your First Year of College Count

Looking back on my freshman year at a large state university, these are my three top tips for starting your college career right.

1. Go to class.

This seems obvious, but it’s hard to make it to your 8 am chem class after a late night with friends. Many classes have hundreds of students and no one notices whether you are there. Some of my friends would try to compensate for their absence by religiously completing reading assignments. Unfortunately for them, this was a bad strategy.

Most professors don’t test you on what’s in the textbook, they test on what they teach. Just printing class notes isn’t enough because savvy professors leave out key information. An hour in class is worth three in the library.

2. Get a job.

It is important to spend time in class and studying, but you will still have time for a job. With a job you will manage your time better, make extra money and start building your resume.

Campus jobs are generally best for students; they have reasonable hours (8-15 hours per week) and are more understanding of your class schedule. If you qualify for financial aid, look into work-study options. Ideally you can work in an area related to your studies and future career.

I worked campus jobs in college and value my experience. Occasionally I missed fun with friends, but mostly I missed watching bad reality tv. Because I was busier, I was more efficient with my time. And by having a job I was able to avoid student loans and build my resume in my field.

3. Savor your free time.

After going to class and work you will still have a lot of free time. If you live in the dorms, you don’t even have to buy groceries or clean your bathroom. Your only chore is to keep half of a 10 X 14 ft room clean. And most people don’t even do that.

With that free time make sure you meet new people and form meaningful friendships. Freshman year in college is a unique situation where everyone is “the new kid.” It is one of the easiest times in your life to make friends, and many of those friends you will keep for life. Most importantly, just take the time to hang out and goof off, and remember that it doesn’t get any better than that.

3 Types of Hydroponic Garden Systems

Newcomers to hydroponic gardening are often overwhelmed by the plethora of different choices available in the field of hydroponic garden systems. Let’s try and narrow those choices down a little by concentrating on three popular versions of hydroponic garden systems namely NFT, Ebb and Flow or the Drip system.

Nutrient Film Technique System (NFT)

First introduced in England in the 1970’s by Dr Allen cooper, the nutrient film technique or NFT was intended to be a large scale, cheap hydroponic garden system suitable for areas that had no arable land. The NFT system works by exposing the plants root systems to a constant flow of nutrient rich solution.

All the plants nutritional needs are filled by absorbing nutrients from this solution through the root system. The constant feeding pattern produces accelerated productivity, but can also cause plant starvation due to the lack of a buffer in the form of a medium. In addition, larger plants require trellis support because of the lack of medium.

Ebb and Flow system

One of the most common hydroponic garden systems is an ebb and flow system. This system consists of individual medium filled containers that are laid out in growing beds. These growing beds are flooded at regular intervals to supply the plants in the containers with nutrient rich water.

The beds are drained after each wash to provide the root systems with oxygen. The medium in the containers acts as a buffer, trapping nutrients in the root systems of the plants. It also supports the plants doing away with the need of external support methods.

Drip or Top Feed System

In this hydroponic garden system, nutrient solutions are fed from a reservoir via a pump and tubing to a hose suspended above the plants. The solutions are then dripped or lightly sprayed directly onto the growth medium.

Once the water has percolated through the medium and over the plant roots, it exits and flows back to the reservoir completing the circuit. This system can use a variety of growth mediums and is versatile and reliable with low maintenance.

When choosing a hydroponic garden system there are no hard and fast rules about which system to choose. The choice depends largely on the types of plants you want to grow, the amount of space you have and personal preference.

Gardening center will be able to give the prospective hydroponic gardening enthusiast advice on which hydroponic garden system would suit their needs.

Try and keep in mind that it is counter productive to get a hydroponic garden system that is bigger or more sophisticated than you need. This will lead to water and energy wastage, additional labour and time costs and will take up unnecessary space.

Keep it simple to begin with. Get a system that will allow you to extend it as your needs change. These types of hydroponic garden systems are the most flexible and cost effective ways of starting out with hydroponic gardening.

3 Truths of Life

We are born in this world but things constantly change from day one. People change, priorities change. Relations keep on changing like a yo-yo. Friends of today may become sworn enemies of tomorrow.

You are born as a Spiritual being but as you grow up, you turn materialistic. One tries to find happiness in money, material things and people but usually gets disillusioned as he grows up. Late in life, he again tries to turn spiritual, sometimes he is successful and at most times, he is not.

In midst of all this, many try to realize the Truth of life. Very strangely, those many don’t even number up to a fraction of mankind as most die even without contemplating over the Truth of life.

. Living my life so far, the ‘truth of life’ as I have realized so far is as follows:

Change: ‘Change’ is the law of nature. Every moment, everything around us is changing. Nothing is like it was in the moment before. Sometimes, the change is noticable and at most times, so ‘subtle’ that we don’t even realize it. Our bodies are changing, our appearances are changing, our relations are changing, people around us are changing.

What was there yesterday is not there today and will be replaced by something else tomorrow. Instead of resisting the change, you must surrender and accept this change. One thing is for sure, this change is always for the better.

God: It is the ‘ultimate truth’ of life. God is the beginning and end of everything. He only is the creator, the protector and the destroyer. God is the ‘constant force’ behind all the change. Nothing happens without his will and against his will. He knows what is the best for you, me and everybody.

God was the only thing there yesterday, is there today and will be there tomorrow. He alone knows the basis of all, which is much beyond all of us. He alone is our constant companion. All we got here and will leave here only. God alone was with us before we came, remained here with us for the time we spent here and will remain with us after we leave this place. Why think of anyone else when he is our soulmate. He is the ‘ultimate truth’.

Death: Death is the ‘final truth’ of life. Anyone who has taken birth will definitely die one day. Nothing may be sure but this will surely happen. You may cry, you may pray, you may hire the best of Doctors, you may be able to postpone death but one day, it will finally arrive. All that you always considered yours, your wealth, your body, your children, family, all will be left here and you will then probably realize the final truth of life, death.

3 Traits of Successful Sales People

There are numerous sales people in the world. In fact, sales is the highest populated position across the planet. The main factor for this is because it is one of the highest paying careers throughout the world. Of course, not every sales person is successful and only five percent of those who are make the kind of money most people only dream about.

Among these top selling sales professionals are three characteristics to which each adheres. Many other sales representatives know of these three traits, but simply do not apply them. Then there are those who do not know what the three shared qualities are.

What are the three traits of successful sales people? Quite simply they are:

  1. Know your product.
  2. Believe in your product.
  3. Understand the secret of your product.

Sounds simple enough doesn’t it? The truth is, it is simple. Most do not comprehend what it means, though, to know, believe in and understand the secret of their product.

The first key of successful sales is to know your product. I mean to truly know and understand exactly what it is that you are selling. You should know every aspect of your product so that no matter what question a prospect may propose you have an answer–an honest answer– available for them. Do not limit yourself to just knowing the cost of the product or memorizing the sales letter/pitch. Speak to the manufacturer of the product, if you can, and obtain as much documentation or material that they have available. When you truly know what it is that you are selling you are going to build confidence within yourself and gain the coveted confidence and trust of the prospect.

Confidence has a snowball effect. Once it starts to build inside of you it only becomes stronger and larger. When you start presenting your product with undeniable confidence you will notice that your sales begin to increase. In order to build that confidence you must know your product inside and out. So, get to know exactly what you are selling.

The second key is to believe in your product. If you truly believe in your product–you believe in what it does, you believe in what it can do for others–then you are going to sell with much more enthusiasm. People can tell when a sales person does not have a true belief in their product. They have a certain transparency about them. One example I give of believing in a product is a personal one.

I have a deep rooted belief in what the Affiliate Cash Secrets system can do for people. Every day I see people earning money simply by using it. It is apparent who understands the system and believes in it because they are making considerably larger sums of money than those that attempt it half-heartedly. I believe in the system because I am one of those who profits generously every day from it. Because of this belief I am very enthusiastic about providing it to others and I know that they will prosper as well. If I did not believe in the Affiliate Cash System then I would not even attempt to market it. Likewise, if you simply can not bring yourself to believe in the product you are selling then don’t. Find another product to market. If you do not truly believe in your product then you will never be as successful as you could be.

The final key is to understand the secret of your product. What is the secret of your product? Well, that is going to differ for every product, but at the same time it is essentially the same. The secret to any product is what it can do for the customer. What can it provide that will better the prospect’s life, fulfill a need in their life, or satisfy a want in their life. Every product has this secret no matter what the product is. Affiliate Cash Secrets gives anybody willing to put forth a small amount of effort the opportunity to earn a great income, which in turn creates more choices for them in life. That is its secret. So, figure out what secret your product is holding and combine that knowledge with the other two traits of success.

Once you understand the secret of your product it will only help to strengthen your belief in it. As you begin to believe in it you will automatically become enthusiastic about getting it out to the world. When your enthusiasm is combined with the confidence you have gained, by knowing all the particulars of your product, you will notice an incredible increase in your sales.

So take the three traits–know your product, believe in your product, and understand the secret of your product–and apply them to whatever it is you are currently selling. If you can’t apply all three then it is time to promote something new. Something that will make you one of the top five percent in the world.

3 Top Books yet to Be Made into Movies

There are a lot of extraordinary books out there that could become really great movies. Many of my favorite books have already been made into films (including most of the Stephen King library), but they’re not always done well. With the right direction and casting, many book treasures could become screen gems too. Here is a list of the top 3 books I’d like to see made into movies.

Warlord of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs (part of the John Carter of Mars book series). Directed by Guillermo del Toro, who directed Mimic and Hellboy. The action would have to be tightly directed to cover all the events that happen on Mars. The film would star the following actors.

John Carter will be played by Hugh Jackman (Wolverine);

Dejah Thoris, the Martian Princess and wife to John, will be played by Milla Jovovich (Ultraviolet, Resident Evil);

Tars Tarkas will be a CGI character, with the voice by Hugh Laurie;

Thuvia of Ptarth (Princess) performed by Mira Furlan (Babylon 5)

The sets could be primarily CGI with some fun effects, but the strong characters will drive the story. Most of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ works have been largely overlooked for the big screen (with the exception of Tarzan). Now that special effects engines have matured, we can make these classics into exciting new movies.

The White Dragon by Anne McCaffrey (Followup to her books, DragonFlight and DragonQuest in the Dragonriders of Pern series). Directed by Peter Jackson, who directed Lord of the Rings and the new King Kong. The casting will be as follows:

Jaxom, the young Lord of Ruatha Hold, will be played by Jared Padalecki (from Supernatural)

Ruth (the White Dragon) voice played by Max Thierot (Jumper)

Weyrleaders Lessa anf F’lar played by Angelica Houston and Bill Nighy

MasterHarper Robinton played by Tom Wilkinson

Sharra, Jaxom’s new love interest, would be Hayden Panetiere (from Heroes)

Corana played by Gwyneth Paltrow

Lytol acted by Rain (Korean actor/pop star who starred in J.Michael Straczynki’s Ninja Assassin)

Again, a primarily CGI world can be created in this movie, or filmed in the Grand Canyon with CGI enhancements. Strong actors and the right direction could bring this production around, I think. It could even be a huge blockbuster with a 3-D version and some detailed dragon statues and action figures to accompany the marketing.

Ender’s Game book by Orson Scott Card. Screenplay by Nicholas Meyer (Star Trek) and Directed by Sam Raimi.

Ender would be played by Freddie Highmore, from the Spiderwick Chronicles and Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, and aged from child to adult with makeup and effects.

Valentine, his sister, portrayed by Abigail Breslin

Peter, Ender’s evil older brother, acted by Justin Bieber (what a creepy villain he would make!)

Colonel Graff played by Edward Norton

Mazer Rackham, the teacher, by John Lithgow

Bean, Ender’s schoolmate, played by Alex Pettyfur (Stormbreaker)

Bonzo Madrid, a complex rival, played by Taylor Lautner. In Orson Scott Card’s book, Bonzo is described as a striking boy with bold aristocratic features, and I think Taylor Lautner could pull that off.

The science fiction setting could be created with a hybrid of sets and computer graphics. It would be essential not to get carried away with special effects here, and to keep the story on track. Good acting, sharp lines, and plot movement need to override eye candy and SFX in the film. Still some stellar effects can enhance the movie, as long as its deep sci-fi plot is carried forward. There’s a lot that happens in this book, and a lot of deep meaning to absorb.

I would also enjoy seeing A Spell for Chameleon by Piers Anthony, The Stainless Steel Rat by Harry Harrison, and an updated CGI version of Watership Down by Richard Adams, perhaps directed by Kevin Munroe.

3 Unique Games and Puzzles and Their History

Most of us have very fond memories of the various childhood games we played, and some still live on, not only in our memories, but have been passed down to our children and grandchildren.

Do we ever stop to wonder, however, where these games started? Who were the masterminds behind these games? How many generations have they travelled down? Did the designer create them merely for their own children, or did they have plans of making their millions by creating a new craze?

Let’s take a look at a few of these games and puzzles, and consider the history behind them. We may be surprised at what we find.

Chess has been around for some 1500 years. The first official world chess championship was held in 1886, but it’s beginnings had started well before this time. Its roots can be traced back to India, from where it spread to the Middle East and then to Europe. It was in Europe that it evolved into its current form.

Many of the great chess players are from the former USSR, but individuals such as Bobby Fischer, who was the first US-born citizen to win the world championship, and Capablanca, have had their names go down in history also.

Board/Table Games:

While there are many ancient board games, and it is uncertain as to which is indeed the oldest, Mancala is an old traditional game that is known the world over. With many different variations, one may be surprised to find that the skill challenge involved in the more complex versions of this game is on par with the level of chess. Whereas board games are available for Mancala, in certain places in Africa, this game is played with stones in dug out holes in the ground, making this one of the worlds popular games and puzzles. Stone tables with Mancala holes carved into it have been found from ancient times.

Number Puzzles:

Jumping forward in history, let’s take a look at the popular Sudoku puzzles and how they came into being. The history of Sudoku actually reaches further back than may be thought, knowing that the phenomenon of Sudoku puzzles became a hit in 2005. In 1892 a number puzzle, akin to the modern Sudoku, appeared in a French newspaper ‘” its major difference was the use of double digit numbers, and it was based mainly on mathematics rather than pure logic. A modified puzzle, almost a modern Sudoku puzzle, began to be published and appeared for about a decade prior to the First World War. The first modern Sudoku puzzle was published in 1979, supposedly created by American, Howard Garns. It was later introduced in Japan in 1984 where it became known as Sudoku.

These games and puzzles have all morphed from their original beginnings into what we know today as very popular games. Now that you know some of the history of these games and puzzles, why not go and dig out some of those board games from your cupboard and experience a little more history?

3 Underrated Running Backs in the NFL

In the NFL, the running back is such a critical position. Running backs either ease the pressure off a quarterback, or put more pressure on them. There are many types of running backs. They are quick and small, shifty, or they could even be big running backs that can bruise defenders and get short yards. Each player has a unique style. For example, Ray Rice is a small running back with speed. Brandon Jacobs and Peyton Hillis are big bruising running backs, and Adrian Peterson and Darren McFadden has a rare style of running. Yet, in the NFL, there are always a few running backs who are not well mentioned. They tend to be underrated and not mentioned as great running backs. But there were 3 unique running backs that made a big impact on their teams. They were Rashard Mendenhall from the Pittsburgh Steelers, Fred Jackson from the Buffalo Bills, and Thomas Jones from the Kansas City Chiefs. Here are my reasons why:

Rashard Mendenhall has a very unique style as a player. In his first year, he broke his collarbone against the Ravens, was questioned for his work ethic, and put in the dog house by coach Mike Tomlin. Then, in the 2009 season, Mendenhall replaced Willie Parker as the starter and exploded. This running back has a strong gameplay to break tackles, make exclusive cuts, and find open holes. He wears down teams with his aggressive running style and is not much of a slashing running back. As people believe the Steelers defense is the reason as to why the Steelers got so deep into the playoffs, many people forgot about Mendehall’s running game. When Big Ben was out, Mendenhall carries the team, running for over 100 yards in the first 3 games. In addition, he carried the load and went above and beyond than what his teammates and people expected.

For Fred Jackson, he did not have a strong statistical season. He had to rotate the running back position with CJ Spiller and Marshawn Lynch. Eventually, it was just CJ Spiller he shared the carries with. Yet, for Fred Jackson, nobody understands his gameplay similar to a slower Marshall Faulk. When I mean that, I mean that Jackson can run the ball well and make cuts, and he can catch the ball in the backfield. The problem is, the Bills have not provided Jackson a chance to demonstrate that for a fully season for him to carry the load. He can break tackles and he is not an explosive, speedy running back. Yet, he can get the yards in long and short yard situations, he demonstrates the proper leadership. Jackson should get the majority of the carries next season and he will be a sleeper running back. Despite being almost 30 years old, there is very little wear and tear on this man.

Thomas Jones has been a beast since he came into this season. Originally the 7 th pick in the 2000 NFL Draft, Jones did not have a great career with the Cardinals. He was then traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after 3 seasons with the Cardinals, and then exploded with the Chicago Bears. Since then, he has dominated in the running attack and helped teams create a 1-2 combination. With the Kansas City Chiefs, even though he didn’t have his usual dominate year and did not rush for over 1,000 yards, he still created big plays and made defenders very tired. Jones is a rare running back that can still produce over the age of 30. In fact, if he did have a majority of the carries for the Chiefs, he could have had at least a 1,300 yard, 12 touchdown season. Jones is a clear cut, run in the gut, exploding running back. He has that style of just going in the hole and breaking the tackles to run for a touchdown. Jones is even quiet for a running back, never known to run his mouth or even talk trash about his teammates. He keeps quiet and plays with his heart and soul.

3 Types of Dementia

Many people are affected by memory loss and slower cognitive processes as they age. Memory loss is not in itself an indicator of dementia. There are a number of different types of dementia and even more causes of the mental disorder most commonly associated with aging.

A final diagnosis of dementia is often long in coming, because doctors look for a combination of symptoms before concluding that dementia is a factor. When a combination of factors and mental changes are identified that affect thinking, personality, and social behavior; the resulting medical condition is often referred to as dementia. Dementia, in all of its forms, causes changes in the brain that affect daily social and mental functions.

Breaking down dementia into individual categories is not always easy, because dementia can be classified in so many different ways. Some types of dementia are grouped together by common symptoms, others by what part of the brain is affected, and still others by the progression of dementia.

Progressive Dementia

The most disconcerting type of dementia is the kind that gets worse with time and for which no known truth exists. Progressive dementia includes Alzheimer’s disease, which is caused by destruction of brain cells and the buildup of beta-amyloid (referred to as plaque) or the formation of tangles of the presence of an abnormal tau protein. Both conditions cause progressive degeneration of cognitive ability.

Lewy body dementia also involves the abnormal buildup of a particular protein that is often identified in individuals with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. Vascular dementia is a result of brain damage caused by arterial damage as a result of stroke, heart attack, or infection of heart valve infection.

Front temporal dementia is the result of degeneration of brain cells specifically in the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain. This particular type of dementia directly affects the areas of the brain which control behavior, personality, and language.

Severe head injury, such as that suffered by stroke or accident victims may also cause dementia.

Secondary Dimension

Huntington’s disease is a genetic disease which causes nerve cells in brain and spinal cord to waste away. Personality changes including irritability, anxiety and depression slowly progress to dementia. HIV can lead to widespread destruction of brain cells resulting in dementia.

Dementia pugilistica is an unfortunate condition caused by repeated head trauma, such as that caused by boxing. Typical conditions include memory problems, muscle stiffness and poor coordination, and other symptoms similar to Parkinson’s disease.

Diseased brain and nervous tissue can reach the brain and cause dementia like symptoms, caused by Creutzfeldt-Jakob.

There are other disorders that may eventually lead to dementia. Due to the lack of understanding about many of these diseases, the relationship between the disease and the development of dementia is not yet clear.

Dementia that may be treatable

There are some causes of dementia that may be treatable and even reversible. Immune disorders, vitamin deficiencies, metabolic disorders, medical or metal poisoning may cause dementia that can be reversed. Alcoholism and a buildup of fluid on the brain may also lead to abnormal brain function and dementia related disorders.

3 Tried and True Tips for Inexpensive Weight Loss

One of the common misconceptions that people have is that losing weight is too expensive. Weight loss does not have to be expensive. Losing weight is as simple as burning more calories than you take in. This can be done with no added expense whatsoever. All it takes is for you to make wiser choices. Here are some tips for inexpensive weight loss to get you started:

Exercise can be done outside of a gym. Exercise is essential to a good weight loss program. It boosts your metabolism, strengthens your muscles and burns calories. Many people equate exercise with expensive gym memberships, personal trainers, and exercise equipment. The truth is those are not necessities. All you really need is a good pair of walking shoes. You can walk anywhere. You can walk in your neighborhood, shopping mall, or a local school running track. Other exercises you can do that are not expensive are swimming, running, or playing sports. If you want to lift weights, you can start with a pair of barbells bought at your local department store. They are very inexpensive. If you really believe a gym is something that would help keep you motivated to work out, try your local YMCA. Most of them have financial assistance based on your income.

Special diet food is not necessary. It is commonly believed that in order to lose weight you have to buy everything with a low fat, fat free or diet label on it. This is not true. As a matter of fact, most of these items cost more and what they lack in calories they make up for in sugar, fat or some other ingredient that is not good for you.

The trick to eating inexpensively is to eat healthy and to eat as little processed foods as you can. Processed foods are those which are taken from their natural state and loaded up with salt, fat and preservatives. It is a myth that eating healthy is more expensive. Have you seen what a large bag of potato chips costs these days? The brand names cost between $3-$4 a bag. Compare that with a bag of fresh oranges, which costs about the same. Most people can plow through a bag of potato chips during one good night of watching TV. A bag of oranges, on the other hand, will last several days.

To eat inexpensively is to simply eat healthily. Incorporate healthy eating into your life a little at a time until it is a way of life for you. Trade in those expensive pre-packaged low fat dinners for a healthy dinner of whole wheat pasta, chicken and fresh vegetables that you have prepared yourself. Not only is it less expensive, it tastes better, is better for you and you will get a larger serving than those tiny meals you buy in the grocery store.

Special diet programs are not necessary. All of the diet programs out there which require you to purchase their special food for the duration of your diet are not only expensive…but they are sabotaging your long term weight loss success. Yes, you will lose weight if all you eat are the meals that come to you pre-packaged and pre-measured. The problem is that at some point you are going to be off of that diet and will have to resume normal eating. Chances are you will go back to eating the way you did before you began eating your special diet foods…and the end result will be that you will gain more weight.

If you are looking for the support that the special diet programs offer, this can also be found with little or no cost to you. There are weight loss support groups all over the country that can be joined for little or nor fee. You can also find a dieting or exercise buddy in your church or neighborhood. This is a great way to not only be supported but to help support someone else as well.

Dieting does not have to be expensive if you remember these tips. Often, this is only something you tell yourself as a mere excuses for not doing what you know you need to be doing. It is a way for you to rationalize your unhealthy eating habits. That is exactly what I used to do. I would sit down with my chips and ice cream and talk about how expensive it was to buy all of those ingredients for a salad. Today I see how ridiculous of an excuse that was. I’m glad I finally made a change in my life. You can too. Make a change today!
