4 Benefits of Getting a College Degree Online

People are usually pretty skeptical of getting their college education online because they think that it is not as legit as going to an actual campus university. This is completely false. Online colleges are just as credible as any other university. Some of them are probably even more credible. And the degree you get from an online school is the same degree you would get if you went to classes on campus. Here are some benefits to getting a college degree online.

You Will Save Money

Online colleges are often much cheaper then on-campus colleges and do not have as many fees. For example, by going to school online, you avoid paying technology fees, activity fees, and college maintenance fees. This is because the college is not providing things like computer labs and clubs and organizations to join. The tuition is also much lower. In addition, you will save on room and board costs and gas costs if you would have to commute.

You Can Have a Full-Time Job

It is much easier to have a full-time job when you don’t have to attend class at an exact time and day. If you need to have a full-time job and you also want to get a degree, getting it online really is the easiest way. You can do your schoolwork when you have time to. You still have to meet deadlines and complete your projects and exams on time, but you don’t have to “attend class” at any particular time.

You Can Finish In Less Time

Online colleges usually have programs that take a lot less time to complete. For example, you can upgrade to a Master’s Degree in just 12 to 18 months with several online schools. Not all of them do this but a lot of them do. And it is much easier to take summer courses to help knock off some time because you don’t have to go to an actual campus over the summer to take your courses. You can just take them online just like you do during the fall and spring semesters.

You Can Take Your Classes Anywhere

As long as you have an internet connection, you can take your class anywhere you go. If you want to do some homework while you are at the office, you can just log on to a computer and get to work. You can work on the subway train, in the waiting room at your child’s doctor’s appointment, and anywhere else you can think of. You don’t have to be limited to where you can do your work like you would be at an on-campus university.

There are so many benefits to getting an online degree. No longer do the limitations of work schedule conflicts and money have to prevent you from getting a college education. You can be any age, whether you are a recent high school graduate or a woman in your 40’s. Online colleges usually accept nearly everyone who applies as long as you have received a high school diploma or equivalent. So, take a chance and better yourself with an online college education!

4 Awesome Yard Sale Hacks

I’m moving to a different state in the near future, and need to sell a bunch of my stuff. Luckily, it’s not my first yard sale, and I have learned a few tricks to help me make sure my yard sale goes swimmingly.

1. Sell some crafts. If you’re a crafty person, chances are you have a bunch of crafty things lying around that you haven’t gotten to yet. While some of it is far too expensive to turn around and sell for a buck at a yard sale, that doesn’t mean that all of it is off limits. Do you have some jewelry that you can take apart and glue to an old lamp? Some leftover canvas paper that you could paint something on really quickly? What about some empty bottles that you could decoupage? Yard sales are about clearing out the clutter, and while we tend to think of lots of other things to sell, maybe some of the clutter is in our own arts and crafts. People will pay for one of a kind items, and if not then hey, you got a lot of crafts done!

2. Include others. Ask around. Ask friends and coworkers. Do they have anything that they need sold? You can sell stuff for them. All you have to do is use a different colored sticker for the items in your yard sale that don’t belong to you. Then you can tally up those items and give them that money back. It may seem like you’re breaking even to add extra people’s things to your sale (and I guess you could charge a handling fee if you want), but really there are perks. The more people’s items are in your sale, the more types of people the sale will attract. The more things there will be that people will linger on. In addition to this, you can require that if people are selling things in your sale, they have to help you advertise and manage the sale.

3. Sell refreshments. This really does depend on the weather. But in my experience, it gets hotter outside the more a yard sale goes on, and people who go to yard sales like to hit a few in one day. Maybe provide some refreshments for them, especially if you can get them for cheap and charge for them! Last yard sale I sold soda for $1 and people bought it!

4. Get up early. This may seem redundant to some of you reading this, but a good yard sale should start at promptly 7am. The people who love to go to yard sales really do start that early. And they will wait outside your gate at 6:45. Be ready for them.

Happy yard saleing!

4 Annoying iPad Game Trends that Are Plaguing the iTunes Store

Apps are what make “iDevices” like the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad interesting, but unfortunately there are quite a few iPad game trends that are more than gimmicky – they are annoying. Following are 4 iPad gimmicks that are taking over the iTunes store.

HD title abuse

I’m not sure if you’ve noticed this yet, but every frickin’ iPad game in the iTunes store starts or ends with the letters HD. It’s as though iPad game developers believe that no one will believe their games are HD unless that spam it in the title. I’m not kidding, HD is now synonymous with iPad in the iTunes store and at this point, I think we “get it.”

Tilt to play

Tilt-to-play games started with iPhone and iPod Touch games and are motion controlled games that require players to tilt their iDevices to control in-game elements. Tilt-to-play games are to iDevices what minigames are to the Nintendo Wii – they are everywhere. Unfortunately, for the iPad, tilt-to-play just doesn’t work as well as it did with smaller iDevices like the iPhone and iPod touch. The larger screen and of the iPad makes it hard to view the entire screen while tilting and the heavier weight makes the whole “tilting process” a bit more challenging.

The port

Speaking of things taken from smaller iDevices – like the iPhone and iPod Touch – and passed onto the iPad; tons of iPad games in the iTunes stores are only ports of iPod Touch and iPhone games stretched to fit on the iPad. I have no problem with games that have been adapted and made better for the iPad, but with the iPhone app stretch function built into the iPad, there really isn’t a need for a game to be ported to the Apple iPad.

Musical instrument apps

You might be thinking that musical instrument apps aren’t games and I’d have to totally agree with you. Unfortunately, lots of iPad music apps are classified as games – and boy are there lots of them in the iTunes store. Any instrument that you can name from the accordion, piano, harmonica, guitar, drums, and even the notorious vuvuzela have iPad and iPhone apps. Music apps are bad, but the amount of music apps hogging up the iTunes store is ridiculous. Seriously, how many piano apps do we need?

4 Common Mistakes that Can Ruin Your IPod

There are mistakes, and then there are mistakes.

Any mistake that ruins a $250 piece of electronics, for example, would be a mistake.

The last thing you need when your iPod breaks is to know that it’s your fault and could have been prevented, so I’ve compiled a quick list of common iPod mistakes that iPod owners make constantly–that can ruin an iPod permanently.

1. Not using a case. The iPod looks so great on its own, especially the new iPod touch models, and many owners don’t want to cover it up.

Once you’ve had an iPod for a week or two, though, you quickly learn that it’s extremely susceptible to scratching and nicking, possibly to the point where the screen isn’t even legible.

A case is a must. If you’re in love with the classic finish of your iPod, there are clear cases available, but it’s important to get a leather or hard plastic case for the iPod as soon as possible.

If you’ve got a non-touch iPod and you’ve already got some scratches, try this trick to get the original shine back: buy a bottle of Brasso and some tape. Put the tape around any edge and over the buttons and wheel of the iPod, then use some Kleenex and a bit of the Brasso to rub with fairly even pressure for about 20 minutes. You’ll notice the original shine coming back pretty instantly. If you’ve got a touch iPod, though, doing this could potentially damage your unit. Don’t try it.

2. Unplug it without ejecting it properly. This is akin to turning your computer off without going through a proper shut down sequence; you might be unplugging your iPod while it’s attempting to write or read files, and if you’re not careful you may have problems with sector corruption (or worse, iPod failure and that fun little icon with the folder and the exclamation point).

To avoid this, always eject your iPod from iTunes, not the little icon on the Windows task bar. If it won’t eject, close every program you can. Use Ctrl+Alt+Delete to open the task manager and check for any programs you might not have known were running and close them. With all of your programs closed, you should be able to eject the iPod now.

3. Carry it around water. As a person who has dropped his iPod into a toilet, I would like to make special note of this.

There’s no reason to keep your iPod around a pool, bathtub, bucket, or any other form of liquid unless you’ve got a special case to keep water out in the event of an accidental drop (which they do make, and a link’s at the end of the article).

If you already dropped your iPod in water, here’s a guide on what to do next.

4. Keeping the only copies of your music on it. iPods are awesome, but they’re not indestructible. In fact, any hard drive is susceptible to failure, so don’t keep all of your music on one hard drive unless you’re willing to re-rip and re-download everything that you’ve got in your collection.

If your iPod already has all of your music, use a program like Ephpod to get it off and keep multiple copies from now on. It’s not worth the work it could take to rebuild your music collection.

5. Leave it in your car. A lot of people don’t think of their cars as a dangerous environment, but other than the obvious danger of burglary, leaving your iPod in the sunlight can do a number on its screen and possibly damage its internal circuitry, especially in the summer. The winter’s possibly worse; extreme cold can cause hard drive heads to break down and potentially permanently damage data. Keep your iPod at room temperature and around minimal humidity if you want it to last.

4 Best Used Book Stores in Louisville, Kentucky

If you love to read like me, you can go through lots of books in no time. It would get really expensive buying new books all the time; that’s when used book stores come in handy! Here’s a few book stores in my town (Louisville, KY) that I love to visit, and would recommend to other book lovers.

1) Book And Music Exchange. (http://ift.tt/28pHSTl)
Book And Music Exchange is a unique store and they offer great prices on their used books, and have a wide selection. The employees are very humorous and social-able. The best thing I like about this store is that they will also do a nice book-swap, if you’d like to trade books with them. If you’re looking to sell books, they only pay about 15 cents per book. So you’d probably have better luck going to a different store. Not only do they buy, sell, and trade books, but also dvd’s, cd’s, video games, and novelty items! This store is very bright and fairly clean. Parking can be a problem; You must drive around the street looking for a spot on the road. Book and Music Exchange has a very good selection, and I recommend this store to anyone who would like to do a book-trade. I like to come here on a regular basis to see all the new stuff they have to offer.

2) Gray’s Used College Book Store. (www.graysbooks.com)
Gray’s is located close to the University of Louisville. They sell books used college text books, clothing, and college supplies. The books are all in excellent shape, most of them are “like-new”. If they don’t have the textbooks you’re looking for, they will order what you need, and give an additional 10% discount. They have books for every budget, new or used. They also have a rewards service for buyers to get additional money off textbooks/merchandise. The prices are great for college textbooks. Gray’s definitely saved me a lot of money. They’ll buy back textbooks at the end of the semester, and they’ll also buy them back at a nice price. The staff is very helpful and polite. I recommend this store to anyone who doesn’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on their college textbooks, and still get the great quality.

3) A Reader’s Corner. (http://ift.tt/1sOC1Rm)
This bookstore is my absolute FAVORITE. I don’t know what I love most about this place, The great book selection, awesome prices, great service, or the great coffee. Their prices are unbeatable compared to other book stores I’ve been to. I recommend A Reader’s Corner to anyone who loves to read or browse books, in a cozy and comfortable place, or has children. To keep your kids busy, they have an area where your children can play. They also have story-time readings for children. They have WI-FI installed for anyone who can’t be away from their laptops. A Reader’s Corner is new and used non-chain book store. They offers full service, and books in just about every category. Something I like about the employees is that they’re very genuine and nice. They seem to know where everything is right away. Their employee, Judy, keeps a list of your favorite subjects, so in case she finds a book she think you might like, she’ll give you a call.

4) Half Price Books. (http://ift.tt/1NFbRL8)
The shelves in this store were very organized, and the store is very clean. This store has a huge selection of books, magazines, and media. You may not get much money when you sell your books here, but they have great prices for buyers. I recently made a purchase of 14 books there for only $6! Half Price Books is a nice place to relax in, and they offer free tea and coffee. They have weekly magazines from around town, which a lot of bookstores don’t carry. The staff are very helpful and willing to help you find exactly what you’re looking for. The books are in good condition, and the store was well-stocked. They have a wide selection of any book type you’re looking for. They know what books are in the store, and exactly where to find them. I’ve never had trouble finding a place to park here, either!

4 of the Best Anti-Aging Foods

As we progress through our lives, every once in a while we consider how to slow down the tick tock of aging and we wonder what we can do about it. Recent science has shown us the benefits of being good to our bodies, but can the foods we eat actually slow the process by which we get older? Here are some of the best foods to eat while going through an anti-aging diet.

According to WebMD, many doctors and nutritionists already know what antioxidants and free radicals do the body as it gets older. Some foods that may help you fight the effects of aging are simple and yet packed with healthy benefits.

Nuts

An alternative and vegetable source of protein, nuts also have healthy fats and oils in them that are good for the skin’s collagen . B vitamins in nuts are also great nutrients for your brain and heart.

Eat nuts in smaller portions as they are high in calories but are great powerhouses of protein. Seeds are also included in the nut category for the same reasons as nuts.

Beans

Legumes and beans are filled with complex carbohydrates that give you energy and have few calories. Similar to a vegetable with some of the same nutrients as in meat, some beans also have protein in them and could possibly make a decent substitute for meat.

Peas, lima beans, kidney beans, and soybeans are all a part of these nutritional powerhouses. WebMD suggests adding these to your diet three to four times per week.

Whole Grains

Whole grains provide dietary fiber, complex carbohydrates, and have many phytonutrients that help the body in many ways. Soluble fiber aids in lowering cholesterol and carbs will give you much needed energy throughout the day.

Take in at least three servings of whole grains a day to keep your body regular and in shape. Some of the best grains are oats, barley, and buckwheat for maintaining health.

Water

Water really isn’t a food but it is the most vital thing we can intake that helps our bodies keep their younger looks. Water helps the bloodstream, skin, bones, muscles, and organs all function properly. Without water, we are nothing.

Definitely drink purified water at least four times a day. A standard rule is drink one ounce of water for every two pounds of body weight. For instance, if you weight 160 pounds drink 80 ounces of water per day.
