It is often said that the best way to beat cancer is by detecting it early. People who find out they have cancer as soon as possible, do have a better chance of surviving. This also means that getting tested for cancer seems like a very important thing to do. However, most people do not know how often they should be tested, and for what type of cancer they should be tested for. This is a very important subject, and this article will give you some advice on what to get tested for, and when to start getting testing done.

#1 Breast Cancer

Approximately 40,000 women die from breast cancer in the United States each year, and over 100,000 are diagnosed. It is very important for women to get tested for breast cancer, especially if there is a history of breast cancer in the family. Women should check their breasts every month, and there is nothing wrong with doing this at a younger age. You should be checking for any lumps, hard spots, or abnormalities. Once you reach the age of 50, you should start to get regular mammograms every two years. For people that have a history of breast cancer, you should check with your doctor and possibly make plans on getting mammograms before the age of 50. Although rare, men can also be diagnosed with breast cancer.

Breast cancer screening is going to consist of home tests, which will be you just checking for strange lumps and any uncommon things in the breast area. A mammogram is going to consist of getting your breast x-rayed to make sure there are no cancerous cells forming.

#2 Colon Cancer

Colon cancer kills over 50,000 people a year in the United States, and because of its evasive nature, people are often tentative to get colon cancer screening done. However, once you reach the age of 50, it is important to get regular colon cancer screening done. This should be done every five to ten years. Anyone with a family history of colon cancer, or anyone that would be considered in a high risk group, need to discuss getting tested more often, and possibly at a younger age.

The two tests normally done for colon cancer screening are a colonoscopy or a sigmidoscopy. In a colonoscopy, a small camera is going to be inserted into your colon, and it is going to look for any unusual growths, this process usually takes about 30 minutes. A sigmidoscopy is going to be a very similar process, only it only focuses on the lower parts of the colon, and takes a little less time to complete.

#3 Cervical Cancer

Cervical Cancer effects women of all ages and unfortunately around 4,000 women died last year from it. An early diagnosis is very important for this type of cancer, and regular screening should start at a young age. Women between the ages of 21-64 need to have a Pap test done every 1-3 years, and you should probably lean more towards the one year between tests. A Pap test should also be done on women under the age of 21 if they have been sexually active for more than 3 years. Regular tests are the best way to prevent cervical cancer, and the best way to fight cancer is always early detection.

A Pap test usually takes around 5 minutes, and is going to include a doctor checking the vagina regions, and removing some cells from the cervix for testing. Having a regular Pap test greatly reduces the risk of cancer because often the cancer causing problems can be treated.

#4 Prostate Cancer

The benefits of this type of cancer screening are under much debate, with some people not feeling the benefits are worth the test itself. It is normally recommended that people between the ages of 40-75 think about possibly getting a PSA test, and deciding if that is right for them. Once past the age of 75, it is not recommended. This is also a test that you should talk to your doctor about, and see if it is the right thing for you. As for the PSA test, the goal is deciding on your level of PSA, which is a protein produced by prostate tissue. A blood test is going to be taken to decide if the normal level is elevated. However, other factors can raise PSA levels, making some people question this test.

4 Household Items that Can Repair and Maintain Your Xbox 360

xThe Xbox 360 is one console with a lot of technical problems, and what’s more, it’s expensive to repair. Luckily, you can do a lot of repairs and maintenance to your own Xbox 360 with items that you’ve probably got around your house right now–or that you can buy for only a few bucks.

Here’s a look at four ways to repair and maintain an Xbox 360 using everyday household items.

1. Compressed Air – If you ever get an open tray error or other problems with the disc reader in the Xbox 360, you can use compressed air to clean the lens by gently shooting a few puffs into the open tray, towards the general area of the lens. You can also use compressed air to regularly clean the vents on the back of the Xbox 360, which will prevent it from overheating. Just be sure to follow the directions on the can of compressed air, and don’t spray in one spot for very long.

2. Isopropyl Alcohol – If compressed air doesn’t work, and you’re comfortable opening up your Xbox 360, isopropyl alcohol’s another way to fix up the laser lens. It’s the only liquid you should ever use on the components of your Xbox 360, but use it conservatively and be careful to use a soft cloth any time you’re treating something with alcohol.

3. A Towel – As odd as it may sound, if your Xbox 360 gets the red ring of death, you can use an ordinary bath towel to get it working again in many cases–albeit only temporarily. The technique is to tightly wrap the towel around the Xbox 360 and turn it on for about 10 minutes or so. This forces the Xbox 360 to overheat, and may temporarily repair the damaged soldering that causes the infamous Red Ring of Death error. Be warned that Microsoft frowns on this fix, but there are numerous reports from all over the Internet (including mine) that confirm that it works.

4. Toothpaste – Here’s another odd fix. If your Xbox 360 game discs become scratched (for instance, if you turn the Xbox 360 from a vertical to a horizontal position while it’s running), you can put a layer of toothpaste on the offending disc, let it dry, and then buff out all but the most severe scratches that discs might have. No word on whether certain toothpastes work better than others, but keep a soft rag and a tube of Ultrabrite near your Xbox 360 in case you ever need to deal with a damaged disc.

When it comes to fixing breakfast, they know what they are doing. Offering things like Fresh homemade croissants with every kind of filling you can think of. They also have two dozen different kinds of pastries that you will have a hard time deciding on. Come here extremely hungry and you are guaranteed to leave full.

Corner Bistro

If you’re looking for a combination of good food and not that expensive, then you have to stop here. While this place is far from classy, they make up for it with a laid back ambiance. They are known for their delicious burgers and cheap draft beer, making it the perfect place to kick back and relax after a busy day at work. Don’t be surprised if your meal gets served on a paper plate. It’s their personal style and makes them unique. This is defiantly a place you need to try at least once.

1. Flaxseed

If your go-to cookie contains oatmeal or nuts, consider mixing a few tablespoons of milled flaxseed into the batter. The nutty-flavored seeds are packed with heart-healthy Omega-3 fatty acids, disease fighting antioxidants and fiber to keep you regular, according to registered dietician Elaine Magee, an expert columnist on WebMD. Although the flavor of flaxseed is mild, it pairs best with a hearty, thick cookie.

2. Nuts

Add some crunch to your cookies by using chopped nuts. Whether you sprinkle them on top of your favorite cookie recipe, or mix the nuts into the batter, your body will thank you. Nuts provide healthy unsaturated fats, skin-clearing Vitamin E and fiber for regular digestion, according to the Mayo Clinic. Instead of sprinkling cookies with colored sugar, try a flavorful ground spice. Seasonal favorites such as cinnamon and cloves not only coordinate with the holidays, they also benefit your health. 4 Important Steps on How to Pray to God, so that Your Prayer Will Be Granted

Earnest communication with God is so important and powerful because it helps us a lot in resolving conflicts and eases out burden due to pains, envy, etc. It is also in this prayer wherein the people regardless of races will unite together in order to attain peace and prosperity in the land. But, the main question is … what is the essence of prayer to one’s life?

Praying for forgiveness, etc. is one of the best ways to communicate with God. Praying helps a lot because through the prayers, we can thank and ask God for the things that we need. Of course, God doesn’t answer our prayers right away if our faith dwindles. Our faith lies in it. To resolve it, we express a sincere, heartfelt talk with our Heavenly Father. As we have heard, God always gives three answers: Yes, Maybe, and No. A No sounds upsetting but one shouldn’t take it seriously because God thinks that you deserve better. Something might be sacrificed on your way but one thing is certain, something is better and it will always be there for you someday, and somehow. Yes, seems the sweetest answer that one could ever receive. You get what you need and God approves of what you have really wanted. Aside from that, other reason takes its precedence, God approves of what you have prayed, as long as it is sincere, and it is free from guilt, etc. Perhaps, your prayers may be granted if you have also been good at all times, and your conviction and faith in God are very compelling and undeniable. Well, it is obviously between Yes and No but God has His own purpose why He has given Maybe as an answer. One of His reasons is that He answers Maybe because He wants us to wait for a while and give it a break. He wants us to think over about the things we ask for Him, if it is the thing that we really need or just the thing that we may have merely wanted.

God will always be there for us no matter what it happens. He is always found everywhere and we can even talk to Him day in and day out! God is omniscient or all-knowing and no one in this world knows what really the best for us, according to God’s volition. Prayer is the greatest blessing we have while we are here on earth. Through this entreaty to the Lord, we can converse with the Almighty and seek His guidance daily.

There are important steps on how to pray to God, so that your prayer will be granted:

1. You open your prayer by addressing to our Heavenly Father;

– It’s the first step for you to do before you engage in other preliminary tasks through face-to-face communication with Him. You have to commence your prayer with our Father in Heaven or Heavenly Father.

2. You express your profound gratitude to Him for everything;

– It’s the second step for you to do where you can express your deep thanks to the Lord for everything he has done for you.

3. You ask God for everything that you have received; and

– It’s the third step of prayer where you can earnestly ask Him for everything that is expedient to your needs. Don’t ask that is too impossible to grant.

4. You close your prayer by addressing it “In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

– It’s the last step of prayer where you can terminate it by calling the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. In every prayer: there’s an opening prayer where you can address to our Father in Heaven and closing prayer where you can address to Jesus Christ.

Whatever problems that you have, only the prayer can work out, move mountains through God’s miracles. It’s impossible that God won’t help you if you are very sincere and honest to Him. If you are true adherent in God’s commandments at all times, He will protect you from danger and give you many blessings. The blessings will pour upon you and your family members from time to time. Prayer will aid you in drawing closer to God. All of you human thoughts and actions are influenced by you prayers.

Some were born as Christians and we value our faith the most. The scripture as God’s expressive instrument in speaking of the truth is a big help for us. It is a reflective one. It speaks of stories which we could relate in real life-situations. Chapters in the bible contain parables and simple stories, yet very meaningful and prolific as they give us a moral.

It’s usual for us to make an imploration during our solemn prayer and mostly our prayer is unanswered that could make us eventually depressed. It’s also true that the tears, suddenly came out from our eyes, gradually start falling. However, when we think it’s over we might consider that God has already made a design for us. If those petitions have not been granted maybe there are some factors that God wants us to realize. However, if our petition has been granted we could say that God is very kind to us. He loves us because he answers our prayer. And through this we could resist a lot of tears falling from our eyes. The tears of happiness could make us a strong believer of Him in spite of the stumbling blocks.

We as Christians live the gospel of Jesus Christ and pray always, we will have joy and happiness. We go to church and listen to the gospel or God’s pleasing words every Sunday. If ever we fail to go to the church, we can also open our bible at home and read the chapter and verse. In this way we are able to understand much of God’s message. We are able to have acquired the truthfulness of the gospel and reflection upon reading it. As what the Christians say the gospel readings are the food for our souls; therefore, the gospel is the survival of our hungry souls.

Finally, when we talk about our salvation it really speaks for preservation and deliverance. Reading the bible and understanding it by heart is a good deliverance. It is a great help in preserving our souls. The prayer and the gospel are the keys to salvation, aside from enduring to the end.

4 Meal-in-a-Bowl Orzo Recipes

Orzo looks like rice and can do anything rice can do, but it’s actually pasta and is quicker to prepare than it’s grainy cousin. Orzo is easy to prepare, absorbs other food flavors easily and can be combined with other ingredients for easy meal-in-a-bowl ideas that will please even finicky eaters.

Meat Lover’s Bowl
Cook orzo in low-sodium chicken broth instead of water for any punch of meat flavor. Dice and sauté in hot olive oil pieces of spicy meats like Italian sausage or pepperoni. Add diced onions, garlic and bell peppers to the meat as its cooking, salt and pepper to taste. Stir into a bowl of cooked orzo and serve with crusty bread. If you want less spice, sauté other cuts of meat in olive oil, like chicken breast or flank steak. Stir in halved cherry tomatoes, squash slices and mushrooms and mix into a bowl of cooked orzo for a tamer meat lover’s bowl.

Veggie Lover’s Bowl
Cook orzo in salted water. While pasta is cooking, sauté or grill diced veggies like bell peppers, green peas or beans, carrots, onions and zucchini. Toss cooked orzo with a drizzle of olive oil and squeeze of lemon juice, then stir in cooked vegetables of choice and top with slices of raw cucumber and halved cherry tomatoes.

Cheese Lover’s Bowl
A healthier version of mac and cheese, but just as tasty. Cook orzo, then toss in a saucepan that has melted butter, grated Parmesan cheese, salt and pepper to taste. Heat through, tossing to combine. Spoon into a bowl and top with a few thin slices of aged Parmesan. To bulk up the cheese lover’s bowl, sauté a little garlic in the butter before adding cooked orzo or mix in cooked, crumbled bacon into the meal-in-a-bowl.

Orzo Salad Bowl
Cooked orzo in water or low-sodium chicken stock (your choice), drain and toss with a couple of tablespoons of your favorite pesto. Add drained and rinsed chick peas, toasted pine nuts, sliced almonds, diced green onions, diced celery, sliced olives, edamame and halved cherry tomatoes. Toss again to combine (add a splash of vinaigrette if desired). Serve hot or cold, makes a great take-along lunchtime meal-in-a-bowl.

4 To-Do List Hacks that Will Make You More Productive

We all write lists every now and then, but can a list really help you turn your life around? I believe that it can.

1. Put little things on your lists. It helps you to feel accomplished if you can cross off something small like “email so and so back” or “eat your lunch.” It may seem silly to put small things like that down onto a list. These things might not feel like big accomplishments, but trust me, that does not matter when you get to the end of your day. If you got things done, big and small, you can have the physical proof of a list with things crossed off of it. Which means you had a productive day.

2. Put things on the list that make you feel better. They may become habit eventually, but until they are, put things on the list like “do a yoga video” or “take a deep breath” or “drink a big glass of water.” These things are good for your health in the long run, and no time spent doing them is a waste of time. Putting them on the list might be exactly what you need to make them into a good long-term habit.

3. Don’t sweat the big stuff. You may find yourself putting off something. It’s ok. We all do it. Write that thing you’re putting off on your list every day until it’s done. You will feel so great the day that it is and it will eventually get done. Let’s say, for example, that you’re putting off calling the cable company to ask about your bill. It’s been on your list for four days and you still haven’t done it. At some point you will either just suck it up and do it, or something else will appear on the list like “clean the toilet” and you’ll find you might rather do that thing you’ve been putting off.

4. Make sure to include things you want to do. Have you been wanting to read a book, or write a book? Or go for a long walk? Or learn to knit? Or make cupcakes? It doesn’t matter what the thing is, we all have things we want to do that we aren’t making time for. By putting those things on your to-do list, you are holding yourself accountable for not doing things for yourself. And if you want to do them, you can do them instead of cleaning the toilet. Just this once. Cleaning the toilet will be on your list tomorrow though…
