10 Tips for a Flatter Stomach

Having a flat stomach is a goal that many people would like to accomplish. Here are ten suggestions for getting that sexy flat stomach that you desire.

DRINK MORE WATER

Drink more water, and eliminate or reduce your intake of carbonated beverages. Drinks like soda provide no nutritional value and cause gas to build up in your gut. Having a stomach which is bloated with gas can create the illusion of a fat stomach. Drinking plenty of water will regulate your body processes and help your body flush away fat and toxins.

TRY PROBIOTICS

Probiotics are organisms which have been added to foods such as yogurt or cheese, for the purpose of aiding the body’s digestive processes. Probiotics are often called “good bacteria.” These good bacteria are necessary for normal digestive health. Eating probiotic yogurt is a great way to make sure that your stomach isn’t pooching out simply because of poor digestion.

INCREASE YOUR FIBER INTAKE

Eat more fiber and will feel fuller quicker. Fiber helps sweep out the colon, and prevent constipation. Whole grain breads and cereals are a great way to get the fiber that your body needs to flush out the abdominal area and keep your stomach from looking or feeling bloated.

LIMIT ARTIFICIAL SWEETENER

Some doctors have reported that many of their patients suffer from abdominal bloating due to ingredients in artificially sweetened foods. Experts recommend not to exceed 3 servings a day of artificial sweeteners.

LIMIT YOUR SODIUM INTAKE

Sodium is a necessary component for natural body function, however consuming too much of it may cause bloating and water retention. A total of no more than 2300 mg. of sodium per day is recommended.

STOMACH CRUNCHES

Get into the habit of doing short bursts of stomach crunches throughout your day. Sitting down watching television? Why not take this time to do a few crunches and tighten up those abdominal muscles. Doing stomach crunches or other abdominal strengthening exercises are essential in achieving the muscle tone you will need for a flat stomach.

LEARN TO LOVE CARDIO

Cardiovascular exercise is more than just a great way to strengthen your heart. Doing 15 minutes of cardio, three times a week will help your body burn the calories that it needs in order for overall inches and pounds to start dissolving. There are many different types of cardiovascular exercise. Choose one that you might enjoy, such as jogging or bike riding.

DRINK PEPPERMINT TEA

Studies have shown that drinking peppermint tea may help reduce bloating. Many eastern countries also eat small amounts of ginger with their meal to ease digestion.

DON’T EAT BEFORE BEDTIME

Although studies are inconclusive, many people believe that eating too close to bedtime will result in calories being stored as fat. In addition to this, when we sleep our bodily functions need to be at rest, as well. Eating food too close to bedtime can often cause indigestion and can contribute to acid reflux issues.

BE AWARE OF YOUR POSTURE

Many times our body language gives others a clue to the way that we are really feeling about ourselves. Sitting or standing in a slouched-over manner can create an illusion that makes us look heavier than we actually are. Standing tall with your spine straight and stomach pulled in will help you exude an aura of confidence, as well as giving an appearance of height and a flatter stomach.

Set realistic goals and remember to love yourself unconditionally as you work toward improvement.
