10 Tips for Easier Morning Workouts

Working out in the morning is ideal for anyone who wants to jumpstart their metabolism, get a surge of energy, and burn calories all day. Unfortunately, working out early in the day does not come easy for those of us who enjoy sleeping in. Here are some tips for making morning workouts easier for you.

1. Always take part in some sort of exercise that you enjoy in the morning. Whether it is yoga, using the elliptical trainer or dancing, doing something that you enjoy will make getting out of bed to do something that you enjoy will make it so much easier for you.

2. Avoid putting your alarm clock on snooze when it goes off. Putting it on a dresser or desk that is in a location which requires you to get up to turn it off will help get you out of bed.

3. Prepare for your morning workout the night before. Lay out your gym clothes and shoes or put them in a bag so that you can grab them and simply leave the house. It will make it so much easier, as no one feels like gathering clothes first thing in the morning.

4. Wake up at the same time every day for your morning workout. Getting yourself into the routine of getting up at a certain time will make it easier for you to do overtime.

5. Go to bed earlier than you normally do. When your alarm goes off in the morning, you will be grateful for that extra hour or half hour of sleep that you wouldn’t have gotten otherwise.

6. Consider taking a class early in the morning. Since you will be paying for it, it is less likely that you will want to miss it to sleep in.

7. Remember to keep hydrated during your workout. Since you have been sleeping, it’s likely that you haven’t had any fluids for a good seven or eight hours. Keeping a water bottle by your side at all times is important.

8. Consider asking a friend or co-worker to join you for a morning workout. Knowing that you are going to be meeting up with someone will encourage you to follow through with your plans to go to the gym. No one wants to look like the person who doesn’t show up when they are expected.

9. Be sure to eat something wholesome prior to working out. It is bad to exercise on a completely empty stomach. A hearty breakfast that consists of wholegrain toast, egg whites, and a fresh piece of fruit is ideal. However, most people do not want to eat a huge meal before working out, so allow yourself enough time to grab a granola bar or container of yogurt.

10. Keep a positive attitude about your morning workout. The more that you complain about it, the more challenging it is going to seem in the long run.

Don’t give up working out in the morning just because it seems like a challenge in the beginning. Although getting out of bed earlier may seem rough those first few days, you will thank yourself for it in the end. After a few weeks of working out early in the morning, your body will be able to adjust to your new routine.
