4th of July Dessert Recipes

The 4th of July is a great time to get together with family and/or friends and to celebrate our country’s independence. Whether you are hosting a get-together or are a guest at one, these desserts will help you celebrate Independence Day.

Here is an easy dessert recipe containing the colors of the American flag. For this recipe you will need:

1-2 cups fresh blueberries
2 cups fresh strawberries
4 small scoops of strawberry or raspberry sherbet (whichever you prefer)
½ -1 cup whipped cream, Boston Cream or vanilla pie, or yogurt

Cut the stems out of the strawberries and slice them in half. Wash all the berries. In a dessert dish put a small scoop of sherbet. Next, top the sherbet with strawberries and blueberries. Finally, place two to three tablespoons of yogurt or whipped cream on top of the berries and sherbet. Repeat recipe in separate dessert dishes or cups in order to make four to six servings.

Layered Strawberry Dessert

Another dessert recipe you might want to whip up for your get-together is the Layered Strawberry Dessert. For this recipe you will need:

5 tablespoons sugar
½ cup sugar
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1 ½ cups graham cracker or vanilla wafer crumbs
4 egg whites
¼ cup melted butter
2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced

In a bowl, sprinkle 2 cups of fresh, sliced strawberries with 3 tablespoons sugar. Set the bowl aside.

Next, in another bowl, mix melted butter, 1 ½ cups graham cracker or vanilla wafer crumbs, and 2 tablespoons of sugar. Press mixture into an 8-inch square baking pan.

In a large mixing bowl, beat 4 egg whites until soft peaks form; then, gradually beat ½ cups sugar in. Beat mixture until stiff peaks form. Spread mixture over graham cracker or vanilla wafer crumbs in the baking dish.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Bake meringue and graham cracker or vanilla wafer crumbs at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes.

Whip cream. Spread whipped cream over the meringue. Drain the strawberries and spread them over the whipped cream evenly.

Chill before serving.

Cream Cheese Filled Strawberries

Finally, cream-cheese filled strawberries are a unique dessert, perfect for a 4th of July celebration.

The ingredients for this recipe are:

11-12 ounces of softened cream cheese
¼ teaspoon almond extract
2 tablespoons of semi-sweet or milk chocolate, grated
32 large, fresh strawberries

First, cut a thin sliver off each stem end of the strawberries, so that the strawberry can stand on its end. Place the strawberries onto a serving platter, cut side (flat side) down. Cut each strawberry into four wedges, cutting almost, but not completely through the strawberry.

In a mixing bowl, beat sugar, cream cheese, and almond extract until the mixture is fluffy and light. Use a decorating bag with a tip or a teaspoon to gently fold the grated chocolate into the mixture.

Fill the strawberries.

The 4th of July is the day we celebrate our independence. Make the celebration special with these fantastic desserts!
